Given that you’re reading this, you’re probably very well aware that Yamaha took some short cuts with the suspension. The factory-issue forks are adjustable for rebound only, and in stock form, provide very little damping (regardless of whether you own an FZ-09, FJ-09, or XSR900 – they all have their own deficiencies). The good folks at GP Suspension took matters into their own hands and developed a fantastic valving solution specifically for the FZ-09. We custom tailored it to our specifications.
- 20 mm compression valve w/ custom shim stack, optimized bleed port, and check valve assembly.
- 20 mm rebound piston w/ custom shim stack and check valve assembly. Yes, you’ll actually have access to meaningful damping to eliminate the pogo-effect from the factory.
- 8 degree rebound needle to provide better laminar flow characteristics through the rebound bleed and increased adjustability.

We pair this kit with fork oil and the market’s only drop-in fork spring, sized for the customer’s weight and riding style. This kit follows the factory’s non-adjustable compression approach, but the results are quite amazing. Even sub-freezing temperatures won’t adversely impact the forks’ performance. You’ll gain increased low-speed rebound/compression damping without an undue increase in high-speed compression. In laymans terms, less brake dive, no pogo-effect – all without creating harshness. For the money, this kit can’t be beat!
