Description

Let’s be honest.  How do you really feel about your 2020-2024 Ténéré 700’s clutch?  As good as the bike is (very), the clutch leaves a lot to be desired.  Some bikes even left the factory with clutch assemblies subject to recall notices.  But surprise, surprise, even that ‘fix’ didn’t alleviate the narrow friction zone, the clunk into gear, or clutch drag.  Fortunately, Yamaha does know how to make a great clutch already.  The YZF-R7 shares the same engine (more or less) and comes with much better clutch lever feel.  Why Yamaha didn’t include the R7’s clutch on the Ténéré is beyond comprehension, especially given the bike’s off-road usage where proper clutch application is key! When properly installed and adjusted, the R7’s slip-assist clutch eliminates the clunk into first gear and clutch drag.  Most importantly, shift action is much smoother and a mistimed downshift doesn’t upset the chassis nearly as much as the OEM clutch assembly.

Kit includes every OEM part you need to convert your clutch (except the engine oil – pick your preference):

  • Pressure Plate
  • Clutch Hub
  • Friction Plates
  • Steels (a selection of sizes to ensure proper adjustment)
  • Pressure Plate Hardware
  • Single-use Nut
  • Clutch Cover Gasket
  • Optional:  ASV “Unbreakable” Levers.  Save a few bucks by bundling with the clutch kit.  Discount only applies when purchased together!

This is one of those “the bike should have come from the factory like this” modifications that will not disappoint.  If you spend a lot of time off-road or in bumper-to-bumper traffic (yuck!), then look no further!

NOTE:  If you’re running any of the low-cost imported levers, REMOVE THEM.  The fit is typically very sloppy which introduces loads of friction into the lever pull.  If you can’t afford the optional ASV levers, do yourself a favor and put the OEM levers back on.

Just finished installing the Tenere 700 2024 slipper clutch. What a big difference, the clutch now is more progressive and not light a switch. The bike doesn’t jump forward when putting it into gear and the down shifting is so much better. I would definitely recommend this to go on any of the T7‘s. I know the new T7’s 2026 will have the new slipper clutch factory installed. Also I did measure the pulling pounds on the clutch lever and stock was 11.5 pounds and with this clutch it reduced it to 9 pounds.

Glad you’re happy with the results, Earle! Thank you for the support.
